HH The Emir gives $5m assistance to Kerala flood victims, Qatar Charity starts drive

The people of Kerala have a solid bond with Qatar and the wider Gulf region.

People belonging to the Southern Indian state has worked shoulder to shoulder with those in the Gulf to help build their nations. They form a majority of Indians living in Gulf nations and their contributions cannot be ignored.

Recently, the state has been going through a period of crisis, thanks to a natural calamity in the shape of unprecedented rains and flooding.

HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, acknowledging the important role the state has played in his country’s growth, has announced an aid package of $5m for flood relief, reported Gulf Times. 

Under HH the Amir @TamimBinHamad directives, $5 million has been allocated to the flood victims of #Kerala. We extend our sincere condolences to the victims’ families & to the Indian people, many who have contributed to Qatar’s development & wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The allocated amount is expected to assist in the sheltering of those who lost their homes due to natural calamity, reported The Peninsula.

HH The Emir also sent a cable of condolences to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind regarding victims of the floods that swept Kerala. He also wished those injured a speedy recovery.

Qatar Charity opens donation drive

Qatar Charity announced that it will provide an emergency relief aid of QR500,000 for those affected by floods in Kerala.

Qatar Charity has also launched a fund-raising campaign targeting more than QR4m to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of 60,000 people hit by the natural calamity, reported Qatar Tribune.

The floods in Kerala have killed hundreds of people and displaced thousands of others besides causing major damage to homes and infrastructure.
