The perfect hammam
I have always enjoyed visiting the Westin for a much-needed break from a busy day.
On my last visit, instead of heading straight to the beautiful garden to enjoy the weather, I was booked for my very first hammam treatment.
I’ve heard some mixed reviews about hammam treatments. It is not something that expats normally go for, and the ones that have, either enjoyed them or have mixed feelings. I decided to find out for myself.
I was invited by the Heavenly Spa at The Westin Doha to try their Heavenly Signature Hammam Ritual.
Rewind to my arrival at the spa, I am welcomed by the friendly therapist with a refreshing welcome drink. The exquisite interior and the sound of water instantly calms my mood.
As I step into the treatment room, a cascade of steam engulfs me. I lie down on a big square raised up section set up in the middle of the room.
The therapist applies a special soap all over my body. Once I am covered, I'm instructed to wait 5 minutes for the soap to penetrate my skin, whilst breathing in the thick fragrant steam, that is now set at full blast. The steam is so thick that I cannot even see my hand in-front of my face.
I relax and take deep breaths and let the soap do it’s magic.
The therapist returns and washes the soap off with waves of welcoming warm water. I’m in relaxation heaven.
She then proceeds the total body cleanse exfoliation through body polish. The scrub that is used combined with the specially designed scrubbing gloves is a product imported form the United Kingdom.
I am hardly surprised that this therapeutic ritual is a big favourite with the Qatari female clientele.
The final touch is when the AMRA full body mask is combined with an additional application to your hair, just to put the cherry on top.
The therapist leaves me to soak up another burst of steam while I soak up the nutritious AMRA mask from head to toe. The final rinse leaves you feeling pampered, lighter and remarkably mentally focused. Cleansed inside and out, I felt that there was a definite mental journey through this physical ritual cleansing.
I would highly recommend this treatment to anyone that would like to be pampered beyond measure and experience this traditional, Middle Eastern cleansing ritual.
The therapist was extremely professional and made me feel very at ease even though I’m normally quite shy. She explained each step of the process in detail and I enjoyed her lighthearted company throughout the 120 minutes.
After 120 minutes, I left the spa with polished skin and in a blissfully energetic state. The Heavenly Spa will see me for another Hammam indulgence in the future. My skin is renewed and as soft as a baby!

The only perfect hammam i know of is the one at my home, where all my daily day's strategic decisions are taken, and i presumably win all of arguments mi mind can think off :) - all during those 5-6 minutes under the shower...haha...
but yes, agree with accha, the same for me too...
That's a month's expense for my food and miscellaneous needs (plus a some amount still remaining in my pocket.)
So do you work for the hotel ?
