Qatar Charity’s campaign to donate to Rohingya Muslims
As awareness of the plight of Rohingya Muslims grows, so too has the push for donations and aid from the public and governments across the globe. According to the United Nations, recent weeks have seen as many as 160,000 Rohingya Muslims fleeing violence to seek refuge in overcrowded Bangladeshi camps.
Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a drive to collect donations for the victims of persecution in Rakhine, Myanmar, collecting donations for food baskets, shelters and other forms of urgent humanitarian aid.
“Burma Tastaghis” or “Burma needs relief” is the name of the campaign.
One way of contributing to the drive for collecting donation is through mobile text message. If you wish to donate through SMS, type MMA and send to 92632 for donating QR50, and to 92642 for QR100.
For contributing larger amounts like QR500 and QR1,000, you can send MMA to 92428 and 92429 respectively.
QR156,000 has already been set aside by QC in the project first phase to send basic food items like canned foods, milk, rice, lentils and edible oil to help Rohingya Muslims. More than 4,700 people are expected to benefit from the project.
Efforts by QC to spread awareness and donate to the persecuted Rohingya Muslims were in motion as early as March, with the #Burma_appeal campaign having been launched at the time.
