HH The Emir set to officially open Hamad Port early next month
Ever since the start of the illegal blockade of Qatar, the country has been opening up new trade routes with newer countries.
A major part of this trade expansion was possible due to the functioning of the new Hamad Port. And now, the fully-functional port is set to be thrown open at the start of September, reported Gulf Times.
HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will officially inaugurate the facility, it has been reported.
Located in Umm Al Houl area of southern part of Qatar, Hamad port will represent a paradigm shift in Qatar’s economic diversification and competitiveness in line with the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Hamad Port is the largest such facility in the entire Middle East and one of the infrastructure megaprojects in Qatar with an area of 28.5sqkm. The port’s basin is 4km in length, 700M in width and 17M in depth and is capable os receiving the world’s biggest ships, reported Qatar Tribune.
Once all construction is complete, the port's capacity will reach 7.5m 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) annually. The port will have a 1.7m tonne annual capacity general cargo terminal, another one for cereals with a 1m tonne annual capacity, a terminal for 500,000 vehicles annually, a terminal for livestock, one for coastguard vessels and a terminal for marine support and backup.
Hamad Port has a uniquely designed Port Control Tower at a height of 110M, a customs inspection area for rapid cargo clearance (5,600 containers per day), a ship inspection platform and multiple maritime facilities.
The port cannot in fact yet receive the biggest ships. The channel into the basin is too shallow.

That is a Good news !
But still the works inside the port are too slow - Taking almost 24hrs to get a container out of the port . Hope the authority will do something for this .
