LuLu Hypermarket starts importing and stocking fresh milk from UK
The ongoing siege of Qatar taught the country many valuable lessons in managing and maintaining uninterrupted supplies of food products.
While Iran and Turkey have stepped in with the supply of food, and Turkish milk has proved popular in the local market, local businesses have also been stepping up their A-Games.
Some businessmen in Qatar are also devising plans to fly in up to 4,000 cows in an attempt to make the country self sufficient in dairy products within the next nine months.
And now, giving people an even bigger variety of milk products to choose from, LuLu Hypermarket Group has started importing all categories of fresh milk from renowned suppliers in the United Kingdom, twice a week on a regular basis, reported Gulf Times.
Consumers can now buy sterilised whole cow’s milk, skimmed cow’s milk, semi-skimmed cow’s milk, organic whole cow milk, skimmed organic milk and semi-skimmed organic milk from UK brands Graham’s Family Dairy, a2 Milk Company and Countrylife — Dairy Crust.
All categories of milk come in one and two litre containers and have an average shelf life of up to seven days, said officials.
Fresh milk imported from the UK tastes good and is rich in nutritional contents such as calcium, carbohydrates, fat, phosphorous, potassium, iodine, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B12, zinc and protein.
“It’s much better in quality and health-oriented than any milk that were available earlier from other GCC countries,” the statement said. For example, the a2 milk contains predominantly A2 type of beta-casein protein rather than the more common A1 protein found in regular milk.
LuLu is also importing whole goat’s milk and semi-skimmed goat’s milk pasteurised in ultra-high temperature (UHT long-life milk) from UK-based companies like Arla UK, Daioni Organic and Delamere Dairy.
Besides, flavoured milk — almond, cashew and rice — are also available on the shelves.
Have you tried some of the new arrivals? How are they?
Onken is one pound in the UK in many shops .. Here it is nearly four times the price
Ok but I don't see how it will be as affordable as local or regional options...I used to love the wonderful onken bio pot yoghurt in the UK and was excited when I saw it in lulu... But then saw the price and wasn't as excited anymore... I mean it was still like a pound in the UK but its more an occasional treat here as opposed to freely picking up all the flavours in the UK..I guess we in the gcc have become so used to subsidised prices that everything else seems like a rip off, be it milk or petrol...
Dairy Crest, not Crust
My favourite, UK MIlk since .... decades ......
