More electronic goods come in as Hamad Port continues to operate at 'full capacity'

After the illegal blockade of Qatar started, a majority of Qatar’s air, land and sea routes had been shut down by neighbouring countries.

However, Qatar’s Hamad Port had stepped in neatly to ensure that the country’s vital supply of food and other amenities was not cut off. Thanks to its initiatives, several shipping lines have begin connecting the country to ports in Oman and India.

Now, wholesalers and importers of electronic items and home appliances are optimistic about their business as goods continued to arrive in Qatar from different parts of the world, reported Gulf Times.

“Hamad Port has started showing its capacity to customers across the world. The current situation gives it a great opportunity to demonstrate its capacity and, in turn, help generate more business,” said an entrepreneur.

Representatives of some major importers of electronic gadgets and home appliances said the arrival of more liners from the Far East will help those in the business as a large chunk of these products are manufactured in countries in that region.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported that the Hamad Port was operating ‘at full capacity,’ with the only change being that Doha-bound ships were transiting through two Omani ports, rather than the Emirati Jebel Ali port.

Hamad Port director Abdulaziz Nasser Al Yafei said there has beeb no increase in traffic since the beginning of the blockade by Saudi Arabia and its allies.

“The only thing that has happened is that the ships in the past were depending on Jebel Ali Port (in Dubai) as a hub port, but now we’re cooperating with our brothers in the Sultanate of Oman, and we thank them, of course, for their generous cooperation with us and the quickness of their action,” he said.

Al Yafei said that there were plans to increase the port’s capacity, and that they were continuing on schedule.
