The side effects of the current political crisis on Qatari families

Regional conflict can never be good. As I witnessed the diplomatic tensions escalate in the region, I had to keep reminding myself that we are all tied together in some sort of "indissoluble bond" in the region.

Our families would meet daily during Iftar and try to reassure one another that everything will be okay. All the while, our mother kept advising us to pray for peace and for everything to go back to normal.

A couple of days ago, I woke up to the news of diplomatic ties and borders being cut so I asked my mother if everything will be okay. She looked straight into my eyes and told me she is not sure. That was exactly what I have been anxious about for the past week.

After asking my mother what was grieving her, she responded that my aunt, who had just finished Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca, was now stranded and could not come directly to doha as per her booked flight.

I was shocked because this is the first time such conflict impacts us as a family in Qatar. "Your aunt was given the option to go to either Oman or Kuwait as transit and then come back to Qatar," she added

One of my close friends in Bahrain told me that it will get better. He told me that it had escalated so much and it could get back to normal but it will require so much time and effort.

One significant social factor that contributed to the crisis is that so many Qatari men are married to women from Bahrain, Saudi and UAE. That means that families will have to find a third separate county to meet and see each other.

Another economic factor that would change the course of things in the region is foreign investment by Qataris in lands, factories, etc in the three neighboring countries.

The current crisis in the GCC made the people in Qatar and the region more sympathetic to these families and the government in Qatar. A sense of unity among Qataris increased and we are more aligned with the government than ever before. I am so proud of our leadership, I am so happy for the maturity and tolerance that our government exercised regarding our families that extend to the GCC. His Highness Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is an ideal millennial leader for the region.

Finally I would like to thank all the Qataris and the expatriates who voiced their support to Qatar through social media. Your voices brings us hope and comfort for a better future for Qatar.

Pray for peace and stability, pray for our home and finally pray for Qatar.

My English is not so good but i am obliged to write this by force. Hope you understand.

If they called them 'Islamic Country", They shouldn't raise this issue in the Holy Month of Ramadan. May be, they don't know how many Muslims will be distracted from worships of this Holy Month which is more precious?

I don't know how to convey this message to KSA, Bahrain or UAE etc....

Indirect flights are at worst an inconvenience, considering the scale of the issue at hand; but I had not thought of all the families and couples that have intermarried within the gcc and how this would affect them; that is sad and nothing should come in between a married couple and their families, love and life together...indian and pakistani couples have suffered for years with this issue and I pray the gcc governments will consider and make exceptions for families that are bound by ties of marriage...

Crisis and Misunderstanding is natural and part of human existence, it happens between father and mother, brother and sister and among nations, the difference is the maturity with which the affected parties handles it when it arises, the leadership of Qatar government must be commended for the maturity displayed so far in handling the regional crisis, interestingly, i got to know about the crisis from foreign media, and i was about asking which Qatar are they writing about because as a resident i have never experience the funny thing they are writing about the effect of the crisis on Qatar, life has been normal and people go about their normal day to day activities so i wonder where they get the information they falsely circulate , but notwithstanding, the current regional crisis has a beginning and certainly it will has an end. God's willing, the End will have many pleasant stories than the beginning . I pray for peace in Qatar, i pray for peace in GCC region, i pray for peace in the world and i firmly SAY "#ISTANDWITHQATAR"'

Qatar has always stood for what's right and never been afraid to speak for the suffered victims.

I hope the world see the innocence of Qatar in this matter despite the accusations. In sha Allah.

the ties will be restored soon
