Why You Should Adopt, Not Buy

Hello, all. I’m Rose. I’m also an animal lover, presumably like those on this forum. With the growing number of expats and general population in Qatar, there are bound to be residents that are looking for the company of a furry, feathery, or scaly friend in their homes. In other words, a pet. Finding a pet in Doha is an open process with a lot of choices - what i’m trying to persuade you to do is to adopt your pet rather than buy one from a store.
The subject of adopting rather than buying, interestingly enough, is a relatively controversial topic. It is clear, though, that local shelters are brimmed with loving, happy pets looking for someone to take them home. You’ll also be saving a life. According to the Humane Society of the United States, 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized simply because there is too many pets that come into shelters and too few people that are interested in adopting shelter animals. Fortunately, most shelters in Qatar do not engage in unnecessary euthanization. However, there is a perpetual struggle to house animals in Qatar, because shelters overflow and are constantly looking When you adopt, you could be saving another animal by opening up space to one who desperately needs it.
There are plenty of adoption centers in Qatar, here are a few of them:
QAWS
+974 5539-6074, qaws.org
PAWS
+974 6692-1577, pawsrescue.com
2nd Chance Rescue
+974 6655-6489, facebook.com/2ndchancerescueqatar
Paw Love

Even if you aren’t looking to adopt an animal, many of these rescues are non-profit organizations which would greatly benefit from your help. You can donate, spread the word, and visit these organizations. PAWS and QAWS also offer volunteer services in which you can volunteer at the shelters to groom and walk the animals and help organize charity events. Please invest in these shelters to help find homes for these hearty, loveable animals in Qatar.

Yes, agree with Brit, they deserve more support, and especially during the summer. We are not into the core summer months yet, and this is the right time to support them physically or financially.
Well said - Couldn't agree more. QAWS, PAWS etc do a wonderful job
