Qatar’s first international kite festival to kick off on Tuesday

With such windy weather over the past few days, one may say that the conditions are perfect for kite flying.
From April 25th to the 29th, Qatar’s first international kite festival will be held at Aspire Park, hosted by Aspire Zone. Thirteen teams from around the world are set to compete in the inaugural ceremony on Tuesday.
The festival will also include a photography competition of photos taken during and of the event, as well as a poster colouring competition for children.
A school competition is also in place, for school teams of ten people to create and decorate their own kites. Registration for this activity is open on the 24th, and the first prize is a whopping QR 30,000, while the team that wins third places will receive QR 10,000.
Aside from kite-related entertainments, the festival will also feature stilt performers whose specialty is comedy, acrobatics and juggling; so even if you’re not a kite fan, there’ll be something to keep you occupied.
Kite flying has been popular in Qatar for more than a century, and the recent round of festivals and celebrations in honour of this activity show that people’s love for it has not waned.
