New fish market opens for business in Umm Salal
An era ended and another began when the newly relocated fish market started functioning at the Umm Salal area yesterday.
The fish market, which used to work out of a vast area in Abu Hamour, was shifted out from the busy locality after constant complaints of traffic jams in the residential area.
The new fish market will receive customers from 6am to 10pm, Saturday to Thursday, and from 6am to 10.30am and 3 pm to 10 pm on Fridays, reported The Peninsula.
The central markets project in Umm Salal, Sailiya and Al Wakra were undertaken from a strategic development perspective in line with rapid demographic changes in the country.
The markets are strategically located to cater to the current and future population expansion in the north, west and south of the country.
The Ministry said facilities and services at the new fish market were designed according to international standards of health and food safety regulations.
There are separate places for unloading, display and sale of fish. The auction area is air-conditioned and external weather conditions will not affect the products’ quality. The facility also has its own ice factory.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Committee for Managing Central Markets at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce said consumers have several other options for buying fresh fish as well, according to Gulf Times.
People can buy fish from the Al Wakrah fish market in Al Wakrah old souq, Al Khor and Al Shamal fish market, Doha Corniche fish stalls and various outlets in shopping malls and other places around the country.
Where is the location exactly? They should have attached a map. How are we suppose to know where this fish market is? Incomplete news!!!
not a big fan of the decision but that's life. In another note Permanent Committee for Managing Central Markets at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce should consider moving slaughterhouse to somewhere else, the area smells like *you know*
This is good news .. but I will buy in Wakrah
