WATCH: Massive Penalties for Sharing Fake News in Qatar
Beware, fake news can come back and bite you!
We are living in an age and time when each day, the fine line between real and fake news is getting dangerously thin. Technically, the vast expanse of the Internet exists to make your life more productive and peaceful. But if you are on the receiving end of a fake news attack, then you can kiss your peace of mind goodbye forever.
Qatar has taken a firm stand and started fighting back against the social menace, passing strict laws against fake news creators. No longer can you simply hide behind a computer screen, churning out fake stories and making life hell for folks who make a decent living. If caught creating/spreading a lie, fake news creators will get poorer by at least QR250,000 and may also get to enjoy the state’s hospitality, behind bars, for a complete year. This is according to provisions of Article 6 of Qatar’s Cybercrime Prevention law, which prohibits disseminating false news that threatens the safety and security of the state.
So, before creating or sharing fake news, think once, twice and thrice. It will surely do your freedom a whole lot of good. Be a responsible Netizen, it doesn’t take too much effort!
