Canadian Salary Advice
Hey folks,
I've heard from a few colleagues and fellow canadian citizens that the salary of canadians should be more than the basic that is offered (I was told triple the amount but I'm not sure). I find my salary to be very low considering I work 60 hrs a week (10 hrs a day, 6 days a week).
I'm a junior electrical engineer who came to Qatar straight after graduating from Canada. I currently have a year and a half experience. I currently get the same salary as everyone else.
The laws in this country are getting to me and I'm finding it harder and harder to find reasons to stay.
Is this a law made by the country or does it depend on the company?
Any advice on what someone in my situation should do?
Thank You & Best regards
@Blazelian. If you are that proud of being a Canadian, Why don't you search a job there it self rather than coming to gulf and crying for low salary? It clearly states that Canadians are not getting enough opportunity in their home country Sorry but 1 and a "HALF" year experience is too low.
All you have to do is to give your best out of your work and just ignore those salaries of your co-workers for now. Earn more experiences and qualifications and bigger rate will follow. In the first place , you accepted that offer.
Just a sincere thought and I am not for argument. Salaries must be determined by experience, qualification and quality of work regardless of who and what type of person you are. It is unfair for those underrated nationalities who are able to work better, more experienced and more qualified for a specific position but is given a lower rate than a less experienced, a mediocre and average qualified person but a member of a high paid nationality. Remember that we are living and spending money in the same place. Have a good day to everyone!!!
How does it matter what others are getting. You have clearly accepted the offer before coming here. We always have an option of leaving the company. In my opinion the best thing would be to get experience in Canada and then work here.
You should not work even 1 minutes after the 8 hrs sincere input ................ .............
Work 10 hrs in a day ??? ........ Leave the place as soon as possible. .......... Please open your eyes to the world .......... You are loosing too much .............. Stop the loss , find a new job in Dubai / Abu Dhabi ..................
There is no law saying that your salary must be higher. Usually , the salaries for Western expats are slightly higher due to cost of living etc in their home country. However, this is dependent on the company and the rules they follow.
The bottom line is that one acceps a contract one feels comfortable with and a company will try and get away with paying as little as possible - especialy if you are recruited locally or there are many candidates for a role.
Does it matter what others are getting?. Before coming here you should have assessed what would be the minimum salary it would for you to move here. Clearly you thought the salary offered was enough and now because other people are getting the same as you you are unhappy?.
Yes, I'm getting the same salary as Jordanians/Lebanese/etc etc who have the same amount of experience as me.
The difference is that I studied and graduated from Canada and have a Canadian citizenship.
I was told that my salary is supposed to be higher than theirs but no one seems to be sure
Salaries are determined by qualification, experience, nationality and demand..
You say you have a year and a half experience - This is relatively short in the overall scheme of things.
Are you saying that you are getting the same salary as other nationalities doing the same job ?
