Prevent obesity, be healthy

Prevent obesity, be healthy

Obesity throughout the world is on the rise, mostly because in today’s world, people spend more time sitting down and eat too many high calorie foods because they are cheap and easily accessible.

Obesity is not the same as being overweight. Someone who is obese has too much body fat. Being overweight means weighing too much and this extra weight may come from fat, bone, muscle and, maybe water. Being obese means consuming more calories than are burned through physical activity. Of course, both overweight and obese do mean body weight is more than what is healthy depending on height.

What one may not realize is that obesity comes with a price. A big one. People who are obese are at the increased risk of contracting heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis, stroke and even some cancers. Other problems may include feelings of isolation, low self-esteem and/or depression.

Certain factors like over-eating, not exercising enough, eating fatty foods and genetics may play a part in weight increase. These factors may make everyday activities hard by causing:

1.       Tiredness

2.       Breathing difficulties

3.       Snoring

4.       Increased sweating

5.       Back, knee and joint pain

The best thing is that obesity can be prevented and extra weight can be lost. It just takes dedication, commitment and healthy choices. To lose weight and be healthy, it’s important to:

a.       Eat a balanced, healthy and calorie-controlled diet

b.       Control portion size

c.        Reduce sugary and fatty foods

d.       Avoid junk food

e.       Stay active and exercise regularly

f.         Limit screen time

Do you eat healthy? Are you active enough?
