If you had a feeling that this February was an exceptionally cold month, then it is absolutely true.

The Qatar Metrological Department has said that February, 2017, has been the coldest on record in the country, since records first started to be kept in 1962.

It sent the following tweet to its 184,000 followers on twitter yesterday.

Officially, the temperatures recorded this month were lower than the normal range for February by 2 to 3C, based on a comparison of climate records since 1962.

February has seen temperatures go below 10C consistently, with strong winds adding to the chill factor across several areas in the country, reported Gulf Times.

Early in February, the country had been affected by a ‘cold wave’ for a few days due to the extension of a Siberian high-pressure system, accompanied by fresh to strong northwesterly winds.

Qatar’s lowest recorded temperature — 1.5C — was felt at Abu Samra on February 5. The previous record was set in 1964, when the temperature had dropped to 3.8C in Mesaieed.

Although temperatures increased for a few days after that, things went from bad to worse after that. While the days have been cold, the nights have been harshly chilly.

Yesterday, the minimum temperature recorded was 9C, in Karana, while it was 12C in Doha. The maximum ranged from 16C to 19C. The wintry weather is expected to remain until today.

The country has also been experiencing rain since Monday. The chances of rain are set to go higher by today evening and it will remain the same until Friday.

Are you enjoying the current weather conditions in the country?
