Coming soon — online renewal of vehicle road permits and accident reports
There is some happy news for vehicle owners in the country.
Vehicle owners will be able to renew their own road permits (Istimara) online, once the implementation of an electronic link between General Directorate of Traffic and insurance companies is complete, reported The Peninsula.
Once the E-link is open for use, users will just need to complete technical inspection. All other procedures related to renewal of vehicle permits can be done online.
“Currently, we’re coordinating with Qatar Central Bank as it governs insurance companies and we hope to complete the process this year,” said Traffic Department’s Director of Media and Awareness Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Radi Al Hajri.
“Once the E-link is fully implemented, vehicle owners need only to complete the technical inspection. Everything else can be done online. They will no longer need to go to the Traffic Department and insurance companies,” he said.
At the moment, all these services are being provided under one umbrella at the premises of the technical inspection centers (Fahes) operated by Woqod.
The proposed E-link will also enable completion of accident related formalities faster. Motorists will no more be required to visit the services centers of the Ministry of Interior and the offices of the insurance companies to obtain the documents required for insurance claim and repair of cars.
The accident reports can also be printed from MOI website or Metrash2 mobile app without approaching the traffic investigation sections.
Earlier, motorists involved in accidents had to wait until the patrol police would reach the site or move the vehicle to the traffic investigation sections to register the incident and issue a report to proceed to the insurance companies.
