Qatar isn’t Las Vegas!
I strongly believe that when it comes to young adults in Qatar. censorship should be abolished. I resent that movies we pay for get censored while the cinema management can simply enforce age restriction etc.
However I do believe that a level of censorship should be exercised in public areas where kids under the age of 12 walk around.
The large screens that are set up at the heart of Mall Of Qatar are screening different music videos from all around the Arab world. It creates a friendly vibe around the restaurants and coffee shops.
I had this discussion with my colleague at work and we both agreed on how uncomfortable it was to screen music videos that include provocative and sexual connotations while kids are around.
To what level are we actually exposing our kids nowadays to things that are not age appropriate? Why do we have to expose kids in their childhoods to music videos that include provocative dance moves in 21st century Arab music industry?
Are we that impatient? Do we want them to grow up as fast as possible? Again, I do not support censorship, but for the love of our young kids and their childhoods please tone it down a notch on those TV screen at the Mall of Qatar.
Remember, this is Qatar and not Las Vegas.
Qatardelhi: I think the issue is regarding the suitability of such videos in relation to young children - This is something that is an issue in most societies ...
I mean what is wrong is showing video on screen and playing music. Are we saying people of USA is different people than Qatar. If yes, than why so many Arab in Vegas n that too with families. This is pure hypocrasy. Set ur kids free and let them explore the world. We are not in stone age, where male and female are 2 diff spieces both are human. Crappy article
Absolutely right.

Thoughtful...
It's a sign of the times Shubeib; not just in Qatar; young, innocent and vulnerable sensibilities are being attacked and corrupted everywhere and we only have ourselves to blame... We adults are slowly but surely letting go of many of our age old human values and way of life and its only natural that our younger generations would follow in our footsteps; we have to be the change and we can not expect children to learn what we have forgotten... Hope the right person reads your post and does what is needed...

I don't know what type of music videos they are showing at the mall, but having seen a few with friends, I find some very risque and not suitable for younger children
