Concert will kick off Qatar-Germany Year of Culture on February 1

A concert by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will start off the Qatar-Germany Year of Culture 2017 on February 1 and 2, 2017 at 7:30pm. The concert will take place at the Katara Opera House and will include four movements from the “Doha Secrets” symphony. This will feature Qatari artistes like Dana Al Fardan, Haamed Hussein Al Naama and Wael bin Ali. From Germany, Gerhard Oppitz will be on the piano and David Niemann will be the conductor.
There will be many events, festivals, exhibitions and competitions in Doha and some in Germany to mark the Qatar-Germany Year of Culture 2017 and will include an exhibition on the life of Qatari citizens in Germany. These events will help strengthen cultural ties between Qatar and Germany and its people, and support mutual understanding, appreciation and recognition.
Organized by Qatar Museums, under the initiative of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, this is the sixth cultural exchange program called the “Years of Culture”. The aim is to build bridges between nations and deepen understanding between Qatar and the chosen country for the year through a mutual exchange of culture, heritage, arts and sport.
The “Years of Culture” was initiated in 2012 with Japan to allow citizens and institutions from both countries to build long-lasting partnerships. This was followed by the United Kingdom in 2013, Brazil in 2014, Turkey in 2015 and China in 2016.
