Souq Najada, the old mobile phone market, to reopen soon after redevelopment
Those who have lived in Doha in the early parts of this decade should be familiar with Souq Najada, a hotspot for the latest mobile phones from around the world.
The Souq, which used to attract people from all walks of life, shut down a few years back and some redevelopment work had been going on there. And now, the market, which sits right next to the Souq Waqif, is set to open soon after being redeveloped as an extension of Souq Waqif, reported The Peninsula.
“Construction work to redevelop Souq Najada has been completed. Final touches on interior decoration are going on. The Souq will open soon,” said Adel Al Kaldi, Media Coordinator for the festivals of Souq Waqif.
“Souq Najada is an extension of Souq Waqif and it’s being developed as a market comprising shops, cafeterias and restaurants. It’ll be added to Souq Waqif. Souq Najada was redesigned in 2007 mixing traditional and modern architecture to provide services of international standard," he added.
Souq Waqif has been developing every day, with additional spaces and new services. There are three parking areas around the Souq, which can contain 4,000 cars. These areas are connected to the Souq through underground tunnels.
