Stripped and whipped, two Indian workers in Qatar plead to be rescued
Qatar has done a lot to improve the working condition of labourers in the country, but every once in a while, horror stories tend to come out.
Indian media reported on the sad tale of two Indian workers, who say they were stripped to their undergarments and whipped with a hunter rope by their employer. The Times of India reported the two were pleading to be rescues.
In a video that was reportedly sent out by the duo, injuries and blood can be seen on their backs, hands, thighs and legs.
The two Uttar Pradesh natives — Parvez Ahmad (24) and Mohammed Akram (27) — came to Qatar through an agent who promised them a decent job as a driver.
But upon arrival, the two were taken to an animal farm and asked to take care of camels and goats in a village on the Saudi-Qatar border.
In the voice message, Parvez claimed their employer beat them a lot. He said he lived around 100 to 150km away from the Qatar-Saudi border and about 20-25 km west of Tohaliya petrol pump. He added that they wished to be rescued.
Here is to hoping that Qatari authorities will take necessary action to help the duo.
I too hope that the authoriyes take action. Whether isolated or not, these cases need to be addressed and the culprits punished
A very tragic incident indeed. It would leave a permanent, indelible mark on the minds of the two youngsters for the rest of their lives about Qatar. This torture by the sponsor was visible and hopefully it would get looked into by the authorities as it has come on media. However, what about the mental tortures workers suffer from sponsors which are invisible?
