Qatar Airways promises to make changes to its female worker policies
Qatar Airways has, at different times, been called out for the many restrictions it places on its cabin crew. One of the main criticisms it faced was that cabin stewards faced dismissal if they become pregnant.
A recent investigation has concluded, with the airlines vowing to put an end to the practice once and for all, reports Gulf News Journal.
“The latest report of our governing body on this matter indicated that the procedure has been closed,” International Labor Organisation’s (ILO) Hans von Rohland said.
The ILO had come out with a report which criticised the company for firing pregnant employees, prohibiting female workers from being dropped off or picked up at work by any male other than a close family member, and barring women from marrying in the first five years of their employment.
Qatar Airways has said that it will change its employment practices relating to women, including finding alternative work for those in late-state pregnancy.
Around 80% of Qatar Airways’ 23,000-strong workforce consists of women.
This is a good decision... welcomed by the ladies
