Residency law amendment to allow workers to leave permanently before contract expiry
Qatar recently passed a new residency law that allows people to change jobs once their contract term is over. It has received a mixed response so far.
HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has now issued Law No 1 of 2017, which amends some of the provisions of the earlier law.
The new amendment, which will be effective following the day of its publication in the official gazette, states that an expatriate worker will have the right to exit the country for vacation, any urgent circumstance, or any other purpose after informing the recruiter, according to the employment contract, reported Gulf Times.
The foreign worker will also have the right to leave Qatar permanently before expiry of employment contract after informing the recruiter.
In case of any objection on the exit or departure of the expatriate worker by the recruiter or the department concerned, the expatriate worker shall have the right to petition the exit permit grievances committee, formed last December.

This new law is wonderful and its very helpful for genuine cases like issues with employers for salary not on time, disregards to employees etc....
This new law is not helpful in one case only if employee put the resign by their own or done any serious crime.
Except the above, employee is much more supported.

total bullshit, new laws screwed a lot, made employers more powerful than before.. i heard termination before contract expiry kicks more than 2 years ban (example - if you sign open ended or 5 year contract and if your terminated or resign after 2 years then you have 3 year ban, its not called a BAN but technically its a BAN)
What about those with bank loan, can we leave also?
Perhaps the authorities should explore the idea of setting up a "help line" for the first three months of the year to answer queries relating to the new law

As per this ammendement, if we resign the job and leaves the qatar. can we come back to qatar , if we are not completed the contract period before also?
Please clarify anybody.
Contract termination prior to its end date, then DID the candidate come back to doha immediately? or need to wait out side Qatar until complete his contract period which he terminated earlier? Please clarify me
I have seen leave applications and resignation letters being rejected by unscrupulous employers on one or another pretext. This law will surely help.

This process of leave notification and exit grievance committee is already present in the New Labor Law, isn't it?
Anyone care to explain the AMENDMENT please.
This is good news. It will help release the strangle hold of employers on employees. It allows an employee who has been mistreated by his employer which is not very uncommon here to kick the job and return home.
Having said that, there are some people around at QL who firmly believe that employers / sponsors are like our parents and employees should kiss their feet and ...!
