Unlicensed expatriates in real estate business to be deported, says minister
At least 70% of you, while hunting for a new house, would have come across at least one ‘unofficial’ broker. The sleazy, oily guys who act as middlemen and artificially bumps up property prices.
It seems the Qatari government is quite serious about cracking down on illegal brokers.
In a strong statement, the country’s justice minister Dr Hassan bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi said that ‘non-Qataris found engaged in real estate brokerage without valid licence will be deported.’
Qatar Tribune reported him as saying that the new real estate brokerage law, prepared by the ministry and approved by the Council of Ministers, has been forwarded to the Shura Council for final approval.
There are clear regulations in place to regulate real estate auctions, real estate valuation and property management on behalf of third parties. As per the new law, brokerage profession will be limited to competent Qatari citizens who have completed the necessary training courses and cleared the required tests.
The draft law will bring in a system of accountability to safeguard mortgage brokers if there is a violation of terms. There will also be curbs on random advertising of properties.
Good move, bad move?
By the way does the new draft mention anything about the fees of the the licensed broker? If not then there is a catch in that since the draft says only competent, well trained Qataris would be broker, the brokerage fee will be way higher.
The law needs to be approved first, and this can take a long time.
Great Move !
Q: If you are stranded on a desert island with Adolph Hitler, Atilla the Hun, and a Real Estate Broker and you have a gun with only two bullets, what do you do?
A: Shoot the Real Estate Broker twice.
Please kick them out.Fed up with the unnecessary hike in rents because of these crooks..grrrrr....I will be happy to help the authorities to hunt down these guys any day..It's time that the rents come down to an affordable price
There are many good souls also .. What of them
Great move .. There is nothing worse than "sleazy , oily guys who act as middlemen"
Question: When will the law come into play ?
