1. Densely populated areas see the most traffic violations in Qatar
After having lived in the country for long, you think you know the psyche of Qatar’s drivers? For me, it’s as strange now as it’s been a decade ago. And now, a report comes out saying most traffic violations occur in densely populated areas. Really? Go figure!
2. Concern over ‘high charges’ levied by auto repair workshops
You haven’t actually driven in Doha until you’ve had at least one fender bender, or so they say. And once you’re hit, do you approach official sales and services teams to get it checked out? Unlikely. However, more and more people feel that private garages are grossly overcharging. Have you felt it too?
3. Qatar handball team begin historic Olympic medal quest with win over Croatia
It was not too long ago that Qatar’s handball team made us proud by finishing second at the IHF World Championships. The boys in maroon started their campaign in their maiden Olympics, at Rio, with a convincing win over Croatia. Wishing them the best.
4. Be careful, five new radars are being installed on February 22 Street
So you’re speeding, you’re talking to your friend on the phone while driving, and have forgotten to wear your seatbelt. If you’re doing this on the February 22 Street, then that’s a triple fine awaiting you. New smart radars placed on the street will tag you for all three violations. Be afraid, very afraid!
5. New rule set to give inspectors 5% of total fines they collect from violators
Have you ever been charged for parking on the sides of roads or for flouting traffic rules? Chances are, you’ll face much closer scrutiny from traffic cops from now on. This is because they can keep 5% of fines they charge. Some people have raised concerns about misuse of the new initiative, but oh well.
6. A walk down the Qatar Living memory lane…
How long have you been a Qatar Living member? Have you taken part in meet-ups of Qatar Living Groups before? Do you want to be a part of it again? Read what an old-time QL user has to say.
7. Technical glitch forces Qatar Airways Kochi flight to return to Doha
It was only very recently that an Emirates Flight crash-landed in Dubai and then burst into flames. Though all passengers and crew on board were safely evacuated, it did send chills down our spines. So when a Kochi-bound Qatar Airways flight returned to Doha, after 40 minutes of flying, citing a technical fault, alarm bells were raised. But all’s well that ends well, I suppose.
mohdata: That's because cut and paste has become the norm - no actual investigation or reading
Wow, op still hasn't realized the 5% incentive isn't for traffic cops or traffic violations...
I suggest.
