MEC detects 41 violations by retailers, closes down six beauty salons
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) carried out inspection raids on 1,800 retail outlets during the fourth week of the holy month of Ramadan and detected 41 violations, reported Qatar Tribune.
The violations ranged from increasing prices of commodities without the approval of the concerned authorities, charging higher than advertised and hiding prices to non-compliance with the vegetables and fruits bulletin, display and use of expired items and sale of counterfeit goods.
The inspection campaign covered garment shops for men and women, fabric shops, jewellery shops, beauty accessories shops, candies and nuts shops, barbershops and women's salons. The MEC also inspected promotions in the markets and discounted list of Ramadan goods.
The MEC also announced the closure of six beauty salons located in Al Waab, Duhail, Salwa Road, Al Kheesa and Al Mirqab Al Jadeed areas for a period of one to two weeks for using expired hair products.
Inspectors from the ministry fined the beauty salons and shut them down under Article (7) of Law No (8) of 2008. The law obliges suppliers to clearly display on the product's package the nature of the item and other relevant data and prohibits them from giving false and misleading descriptions.
