Ease of congestion expected as F-Ring-Al Wakra Main Road link opens
The extension of Najma Street that connects F-Ring Road with Al Wakra Main Road is now open, The Peninsula reported Public Works Authority (Ashghal) as saying.
A new bridge, crossing the East Corridor along Najma Street, is also open.
The new road will improve connectivity between Al Thumama and the Old Airport area to the south of Qatar. Motorists can now travel between central Doha and Al Wakra without accessing Al Matar Street or Ras Abu Aboud Road.
The new road with a speed limit of 80kph is also expected to reduce congestion and ensure shorter transit times in the south of Doha. The 2.4km Najma Street extension includes three lanes in each direction.
The new bridge — more than 117M long and over 10M high — is located at the intersection of East-West Corridor and Najma Street extension.
Najma Street bridge is part of the East Corridor project, which is the eastern section of the East-West Corridor, one of the most prominent projects implemented by the Public Works Authority under its Expressway Programme.
The East-West Corridor comprises the construction of 22 km of a new dual carriageway, including five lanes in each direction stretching from west of Barwa City, to Al Matar Street south of the Air Force Roundabout.
