The Philippine's Department of Foreign Affairs thanks Qatari Emir for pardoning countrymen
The Philippine’s Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has thanked Qatar’s Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for pardoning 15 overseas Filipino Workers during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The Emir of Qatar has proven once again the essence of Islam by granting them clemency. Indeed, it’s good news for the entire Filipino community living not only in Qatar but in all Middles East countries,” the DFA said.
The Philippine Embassy in Qatar is coordinating with the Search and Follow-up Department under the Ministry of Interior to facilitate the early repatriation of the pardoned Filipinos.
The emir usually issues pardons twice a year, during Ramadan and the Qatar National Day in December.
Those granted clemency are often those who have served a substantial portion of their sentences, the DFA said.
The granting of pardons during Ramadan is practiced across the Gulf and is usually made around the time or during Eid’l Fitr, which is the celebration of the end of Ramadan.
