Together, GCC countries create 17 million jobs for expatriates
GCC countries are doing their part to reduce poverty by creating 17 million job opportunities for expatriate workers, the Joint GCC Cabinet told the International Labour Conference in Geneva recently.
Speaking at the 105th session of the conference, Dr Moufarrej bin Sa’ad Haqbani, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Labour and Social Development, said that it is estimated that expat workers send around $80bn to their home countries from the GCC nations, which in turn, he explained, helped fight poverty in their own countries and reduce unemployment there.
He said that 17 million workers were making the economy of GCC countries more active by contributing to big projects that develop these nations.
He said GCC countries are ready to participate in the UN 2030 programme to combat poverty and are doing their part to help the UN reach its target.
The GCC also plans to provide more opportunities for women in the market so there can be more proportionate participation, especially in small and medium-size businesses.

17 million slaves if you ask me!
Why only GCC, We have a no. of countries hosting migrant workers. Look at America, apart from legal workers, there are millions of illegal workers too.How about Europe, people are even ready to take risky journeys to reach there. There are already millions of foreign workers working there.
The best things about above mentioned places is that migrant workers are granted citizenship after working for a certain period of time.
And more so it is about getting services and paying for it. It is pure economics.
..and dissatisfied has the choice to leave. Why to be slaved if think so!
There is no open door policy .. The workers are brought here to work - on contract .. pure and simple
Muad is perfectly right ............ Where else we get such an open door policy ....................... ?
They require guest workers to fulfill their needs - there is no philanthropy or altruism involved here
We are all grateful for this
