Can't you compare the safety & security of the documents in the make up drawer at home or at the HR dept ? There are people who keep these docs under the mattress ? ....... They are allowed to have it ONLY for the duration of the RP (Visa) process.
It is illegal to take the passport from an individual Sponsors who do that are criminals!
