A Doha Criminal Court has fined a motorist QR10,000 for hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle and injuring him.

The local Arabic daily Arrayah reports that the court convicted the man of reckless driving and driving a vehicle without a proper license and causing injury to others.

He was also ordered to pay a sum of QR30,000 in collaboration with the insurance company concerned as a compensation for the victim.

The defendant was driving his vehicle by a local school when he hit a pedestrian with the front of his vehicle due to his carelessness.

Then, he fled the scene, though the victim was injured as a result of the accident. After some time, the defendant gave himself up to the police and admitted hitting the victim.

Most drivers in Qatar seems to have their cell phone as the steering wheel, so no wonder happenings like these..

Pedestrians should make it a habit to cross the road at designated places only ............. than complicating simple matters ............

Reckless drivers anywhere in the world, of any nationality make me sick. Their ego and disregard for others safety cause so much pain and loss they deserve all they get when they get caught or forced to hand themselves in. And the cowards that drive off should be punished much more severely in my opinion.

You should not be driving at 80km/h in school zone or in internal roads.

We have a great problem of bad driving, reckless driving, driving like you are the only one that matter and that you own the road.

It is a problem that needs to be resolved by education but especially by very strict enforcement.

Brit, True driver has controls but we need to remember the distance required to stop when you are driving at 80KM ........ a minimum distance is still required .......... this distance is for all ............ We can't expect from any well trained & responsible human to stop within one or two metres all of sudden ..........

Along with the fine, the person should have been jailed and his driving licence revoked.
