MME drive leads to removal of 1,845 tonnes of construction waste
THE Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) removed more than 1,845 tonnes of construction waste and 2,823 old tyres during the first week of its drive to remove abandoned vehicles, equipment and tires and construction waste from Industrial Area.
About 805 different types and sizes of abandoned vehicles were also removed whereas 269 cleaning violations were reported and 1,285 warning labels were put on abandoned vehicles during the period.
The campaign continues with the participation of a number of concerned authorities and will conclude after it rids the area of all such waste.
This is the biggest campaign launched by the MME so far in terms of the volume of work as well as requirement of equipment and workers to carry out the operation which reached 80 and 240 respectively.
The administrative and legal actions taken against abandoned vehicles start with the pasting of a warning notice on the vehicle to be moved.
In case of the failure of the owner to respond to the notice during the period granted to him, the vehicle will be moved to the abandoned vehicles yard.
However, the owner can get his vehicle back during a three-month period after paying the fine as well as the transportation fees.
