Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reiterated the two countries’ keenness to promote bilateral relations and continue coordination on all international issues of common concern.

They met in Doha as part of the Qatar-UAE Joint Higher Committee meetings.

Sheikh Mohammed said the two-day meetings saw the signing of a number of cooperation agreements between the two brotherly nations in the fields of culture, tourism, youth affairs and developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The minister said he and his UAE counterpart discussed all regional issues, adding that he is looking forward to the continuation of such meetings.

Political dialogue was on the agenda as views on regional issues were exchanged, he said, adding that talks also dealt with the need for consultations between the two countries in all international forums.

On Qatar's call for convening an extra ordinary meeting of the Arab League Council on the situation in Syrian city of Aleppo, the minister said the call received strong support from the Gulf countries.

He said the recent crimes committed against civilians in Aleppo oblige the international community to take an ethical and humane stance.

With regard to the Qatari-UAE coordination on Libya, he said consultations and coordination will continue to achieve unity and stability in Libya.

For his part, Nahyan stressed the importance of constant consultations between the two countries to tackle the challenges facing the region. He confirmed that the UAE will back Qatar's candidature for the UNESCO Director-General role.
