Qatar request emergency Arab League meeting on situation in Syria
The General Secretariat of the Arab League has decided to hold an emergency meeting of Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates on Wednesday, at the request of Qatar, to discuss the dangerous escalation of the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo.
The Arab League, in a memorandum, announced that the agreement on holding the meeting was decided after consultations and contacts made by the General Secretariat and the Kingdom of Bahrain, the current president of the Arab League Council.
Consultations were made with Member States, and with the approval of two states to hold the meeting which were Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, as it stipulated in the rules of procedure of the Arab League in such cases.
In a note sent to the General Secretariat of the Arab League earlier, Qatar requested the holding of the emergency meeting to discuss the deteriorating situation in Aleppo.
The city had seen the killing and wounding of hundreds of civilians as a result of the continuous shelling by Syrian regime forces on the city.
