Municipality seizes expired rice bags in Ain Khaled
Al-Rayyan Municipality’s Health Control Section yesterday confiscated 22 tons of rice in Ain Khaled that was unsuitable for human consumption.
It was revealed that the rice bags had been expired since 2013, 2015 and 2015 and were stored in an unlicensed store that was been kept in a poor condition.
Also, the rice bags contained insects and bugs in them due to storing them for a long time.
An official form the municipality told to The Peninsula, “A week ago, we received information from community sources about suspicious activities in the store, which belongs to a company.”
After one week of investigations and follow-up, the municipality received accurate information about the store and obtained inspection permit from Public Prosecution.
A raid followed in collaboration with Al Saad Police, the official said. About 6am yesterday, inspectors inspected the store and seized a large number of rice bags.
Furthermore, according to a tweet by the Baladiya, the municipality inspectors had also found evidence of equipment and plastic containers used in repackaging the rice and printing new validity dates on the bags.

WELL DONE - RAYYAN MUNICIPALLITY
APPRECIATED
We are living in the "Richest Country in the World", folks. What they can't afford, however, is fresh food. If Qatar really wants to be rich, it has to produce its own food. - Uh, but that means work. Too bad.
Ever wondered why these SUCCESSFUL raids have increased lately ????
One theory says. The employees are not happy or they just got realization.
Good going inspectors keep it up.
dingding: I'm surprised at this, since supermarkets usually have bona-fide suppliers.. I would think this stuff is supplied more to baqalas ...
Anyway, Its a diffilcult thing to police but 22 tons is a lot of rice ..
In Qatar almost all supermarkets , cake shops.. are selling repacked or relabelled items.
Good going inspectors.. I am surprised at how low the fine is ......
Is anything / anywhere safe to eat here?
