Paying Zakat is mandatory on all Muslims who can afford to. In fact, Zakat is one of the basic pillars of Islam, as equally important as praying five times a day or performing Haj.

If you’re an expat living in Qatar, then you should know that there are ways to pay your Zakat. The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs permits people to pay Zakat online, through SMS or even through a telephone call.

Paying Zakat online

Fill in the form and if you want, you could even request for a receipt. Then, pay with your credit card.

Through ATM

Zakat Fund along with QIB has launched an initiative where an individual can deposit money to any account they want. The steps are simple-

Select “charitable donations” services, then select “Zakat Fund”. You will be asked to select a language (Arabic or English), and then select the account in which you wish to deposit their donation.

Through telephone

Zakat payments can be made by dialing 55199996

Through SMS

Follow these steps to donate QR10 through your mobile telephone:

Send an SMS to 92438.

Include a code from the chart below in your message, and Ooredoo will automatically deduct money from your account.

I think it's important for ex pats to support things like this. Irrespective of religion Qatar is providing me and my family a fantastic life here. We always give to the Zakat charity box, even if it's just a few QR, the Qatari's are always very grateful.
