Fifth Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition to open today at QNCC
The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will open the Fifth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition (DIMDEX) at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) on Tuesday morning.
The three-day event, which lasts until Thursday, is being organised by the Qatar Armed Forces. The exhibition is bigger than ever before, with exhibits spread over 25,000 square metres, as opposed to only 15,000 square metres last year.
“Over 58 countries from around the world are participating in the exhibition. Over 9,000 maritime, security and defence industry-related visitors are expected for the show. Around 180 international and local companies will showcase their latest technologies to meet maritime security challenges,” said DIMDEX organising committee Chairman Brig Dr (Eng) Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari.
Defence ministers from several countries, including France and the UK, in addition to 20 naval commanders and 10 Chiefs of Staff, will attend. The Qatar Armed Forces is also expected to sign some major deals on the sidelines of the exhibition.
Eight warships, from seven countries, arrived at the Doha Port early Monday morning.
The exhibition will showcase a wide range of maritime defence tools including anti-piracy diving and underwater operations vehicles, maritime awareness and technology, naval aviation and more.
DIMDEX, considered to be the largest specialised naval defence and maritime security exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa, is held every two years.
Country pavilions at the exhibition will include those from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, besides Qatar, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the UK and the US.
