A Doha Criminal Court has ordered a Ghanaian driver to pay a fine of QR5,000 for injuring some passengers waiting at the Central Bus Station in Doha after he lost control of the bus he was driving.

According to Gulf Times, the local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Sunday that the driver was also ordered by the court to pay a sum of QR60,000 in collaboration with the insurance company concerned to three of the persons injured in the accident.

The driver was further ordered to pay a sum of QR14,000 and QR102,000, respectively, to two other injured in the accident. The court convicted the defendant for reckless driving injuring the waiting passengers.

At the time of the accident, the defendant was driving a bus, owned by the Mowasalat Company. While he was trying to park the bus for the passengers to board it, he lost control of the brakes, hitting 13 persons, including three who sustained severe injuries.

The front part of the bus was completely damaged.

During interrogation, the driver admitted that the brakes slipped under his feet and he could not stop the bus. The injured Asian expatriate men submitted medical reports at the court showing the disability they sustained in the accident.

To me they have not get to the root cause of the accident!

They driver admitted that “ the brakes slipped under his feet and he could not stop the bus” and they want to use that as the root cause to the Accident.

What happened to the 5why analysis? i.e. why did the brake slip under his feet?

Is the brake pedal ok or not? Is the drivers’ shoe ok or not? E.t.c.

Yes the drivers’ shoe, since it’s the responsibility of the employer to provide their employees with the required tools or equipments to work.

However, I can’t be surprised at such conclusion. it’s very easy to pass the judgment on the poor guy; whereas the fellow that killed a lady and burnt her corpse, his still awaiting trial after years of his offence.

Mind you they are both terrible and horrible to me and may God console and comfort the families of those involved.

Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The employer should insure for workplace hazards & negligences. Claiming it from the employee is useless, if the amount is too high. There are companies having such policies.

Maybe he didn't receive his salary and couldn't buy proper shoes. I guess, Mowasalat should pay the fines. Many times companies in Qatar expect you to do your duties but they do not provide the necessary proper equipment!

I feel pity for both sides: victims and the driver , accidents just happen!

This is a difficult one. If his foot slipped, then it was accidental and the insurance company should bear all costs - this Ofcourse is only a personal opinion
