The countdown to the biggest motorcycle event is on, the MotoGP World Championship, with only three days left to the season-opener in Qatar.

Jorge Lorenzo will start the season as the defending world champion, having secured this fifth title in Valencia.

Valentino Rossi took the win in Qatar during the 2015 season, just 0.174 seconds ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, denying Ducati its first MotoGP.

Lorenzo came in fourth place, 2.707s behind while Marques finished in fifth position after running wide at turn 1 on the first lap, and having to work his way back through the field from last place.

The 2016 season will see the return of the Austrian Grand Prix to the series' schedule after 19 years absence, while the Indianapolis circuit has been discontinued. For the first time in the history of the Dutch TT, the races will be held on a Sunday

AB Motoracing will be leaving Motogp, we will also see the exit of Ioda racing as they announced that they will be taking part in the World Superbike Championship.

There will be some changes with the riders too, as Tito Rabat, the 2014 Moto2 World Champion, made his MotoGP debut with Marc VDS racing, the same team he won the title with.

Yonny Hernández has joined Aspar Racing to replace Nicky Hayden, who will join Karel Abraham on the move to the World Superbike Championship.

Michelin is the series' official tyre supplier following Bridgestone's withdrawal from the category. Dorna also agreed to make a rule change to the 2016 regulations to increase the wheel size from 16.5 inches to 17 inches.

The MotoGP season-opener will take place at the Losail International circuit from the 17th - 20th March. Here is a recap of the 2015 QatarGP, enjoy!!
