Qatar’s Charlie Frijns qualifies on pole for Race 1 of Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge
Doha-based driver Charlie Frijns produced a superb performance during the opening race of the seventh edition of the Porsche GT3 cup challenge when he qualified for a pole position. This is the second time he has qualified on pole at the Bahrain International Circuit, a feat he accomplished during the first race of the season.
He continues his hunt for a podium position in the overall driver’s title as he currently sits in fourth place just 22 points adrift of third-placed Ryan Cullen and with a maximum of 25 points per race available this weekend.
“I feel really good after qualifying, this is my third pole of the season and always feels good to get the fastest times when it really matters. It actually wasn’t my quickest lap of the weekend so far so I know I can go faster out on the track but I managed to get into pole position for Race 1 which is the most important thing and gives me a great chance to get maximum points here in the first race. I was aiming to get into the top 4 for qualifying but when I came back In and everyone was clapping and around the car I knew I had got pole. I now need to take this into the race and look for my first win of the season!" Charlie said after the qualifications.
Regarded as the purest form of racing, every lap and every corner of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East counts. The series consists of 12 races between November 2015 and March 2016. Season 7 concludes at the illustrious Bahrain International Circuit on 4th to 5th March.
