Sasol, the international integrated chemicals and energy company, invited members of the industry to its booth at the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) held at Qatar National Convention Center this week under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. Sasol’s presence highlighted Sasol technology in use in Qatar and around the world to develop synthetic fuels and chemicals. The theme of the stand was Sasol’s 65-year anniversary of innovation.

Phinda Vilakazi, President of GTL Ventures said, “We are always pleased to have the opportunity to speak with stakeholders about the technology at work here in Qatar as part of our joint venture ORYX GTL. What is clear today and into the future is the importance of technology and innovation to increase efficiency and move our industry forward. Qatar, the GTL hub of the world, will continue to be an energy industry leader in the years to come. We’re pleased to be a part of this story.”

Sasol joined more than 80 exhibitors to reach more than 5,000 industry professionals at this year’s IPTC – held every other year in Doha. The hundreds of participants who stopped by the stand were exposed to Sasol’s full international footprint, covering exploration, development, production, marketing and sales operations in 37 countries around the world.

“While our GTL joint venture with Qatar Petroleum is massively successful, it represents only a portion of Sasol’s worldwide portfolio of products,” said Vilakazi. “The IPTC exhibition allows us to introduce stakeholders in Qatar, the region and around the world to the full range of energy and chemical products that we produce. In fact with more than 200 Sasol products used in the production process of everyday products, consumers are never far from our innovations in their daily lives. From inks to mobile phone circuit boards to perfumes and plastic bottles, Sasol products benefit the lives of millions of people around the world.”

Sasol’s stand at IPTC highlighted the breadth of the company’s business as well as its community focus. At the centre of the stand stood a model GTL reactor, which demonstrates at smaller scale how the gas conversion process works, the core of the company’s international energy business. In the Community area Sasol highlighted its work to enable people in the local market through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, including its signature ‘definitely able’ initiative and the Qatar e-Nature application. An interactive game challenged visitors to build their own GTL plant by putting the various elements into the right sequence. Representatives of Sasol’s international operations were on hand to explain the company’s extensive chemicals offering, highlighting alumina-based particles, surfactants and solvents that are of use to the petroleum companies attending the conference.

Sasol is in a joint venture with Qatar Petroleum on the ORYX GTL Gas-to-Liquids facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
