Unstable weather forecast for today

Unstable weather conditions are likely to affect the country today, the Qatar Meteorology Department has said.

This is due to "an extension of Sudan's heat low over the region, accompanied by southeasterly light to moderate (fresh at times) winds along with cooling and good humidity in the upper levels of the atmosphere", according to a statement from the Met office.

The weather today is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy in general with a chance of convective clouds and isolated rain, especially over the northern areas, accompanied by thunder and strong winds.

For those venturing into the sea, the Met office has said southeasterly fresh to strong winds (12-22kt, going up to 25kt) are expected offshore, leading to higher waves (reaching 8ft in some areas).

Thundershowers are expected in some areas.

Partly cloudy skies are expected with a chance of early morning haze today and on Saturday.

The current autumn (Wasmi) period is known for sudden and fast changes in weather conditions, the statement explains.

According to the latest seasonal forecasts for autumn, above-average rainfall and temperatures are expected generally over the Gulf region due to the strong El Nino state, which is reaching a level not seen since 1997.

Medium-range forecast charts indicate that another state of instability is likely to affect the country on November 1 and 2.

Temperatures are expected to be around the average level over the next few days (until Monday).

The maximum temperature is expected to range between 34°C and 36°C, while the minimum will be in the range of 27°C to 29°C in Doha. [Gulf Times]
