Make your own Karak at home

Believed to be originated long, long time ago from India, Karak is, hands down, the most popular beverage you’d get to know in Qatar.

This sweet tea is so well loved by the people of Qatar that you’d find Karak enlisted in the menu of most restaurants and Karak joints almost everywhere.

However, for those who’d love to try out a similar form of Karak at home, here’s the recipe for you:

  • A liter of water
  • 3 tbsp loose tea
  • 200ml Condensed Milk
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cardamom
  • Sugar to taste

-Bring the water to a boil.

-Add the tea leaves and boil for 3 minutes.

-Add the condensed milk. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

-Add the cardamom and sugar, stir well and serve!

A very special feature about Karak is that different people follow their own variation of the recipe. Every family will have its own special spice mix that they use when brewing their Karak.

Although most residents of Qatar can’t get enough of this sugary tea, some can’t stand it too!

What about you? Do you like Karak? How do you make your Karak?

It is not Karak, in Hindi it is kadak means Strong. Very easy to make in few minutes in your home. Take 25% milk and 75% water in a tea cup in a boiling pot. Heat it till the milk boils. Add 1 or 2 teaspoon of sugar and then add 1 and half teaspoon of dust tea in the boiling milk. Boil again for 30 seconds. For extra flavour add cardamom powder if you wish. Filter it. Your Karak/Kadak or strong tea is ready.
