Every country has its own uniqueness. USA is the country that has the highest number of people behind bars.

The tiny Polynesian island Niue (pronounced as “new-ay”) is the country that has free wi-fi literally everywhere.

Thus, the following are a few facts on how Qatar is also one of a kind.

1-“Qatar” can be pronounced in different ways and they are all correct! Some common ways of pronouncing it are “Ku-TER, Ka-TAR, KA-tar, Ka-tr, Catarrh” and they are all acceptable.

2- Qatar is one of those countries that pours condensed milk in its tea.

3- Around 92% of the food in Qatar is imported, mainly from nearby countries like Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria etc.

4- Some people in Qatar rear cheetahs, pythons, and tarantulas as pets.

5- Cities and districts in Qatar are generally named after their geographical features.

For instance, Doha means “roundness” and reflects the rounded bays that characterize Qatar’s coastlines.

Umm Ghuwailina means “mother of Ghulan” ( ghulan is a kind of shrub that grows in that area).

Umm Slal Ali means “mother of rocks”.

6- In Qatar, a litre of water is more expensive than a litre of petrol.

7- There are no forests in Qatar and the country spends millions to import forestry products.

8- This is one of those countries where a lot of talking in loud voices, and catching up with the latest gossip, is done during intense scenes in cinema halls.

9- Qatar is also the smallest country by area ever to be hosting the FIFA World Cup. This will happen in 2022.

10- Most women from the other Gulf countries have reportedly said that they favour Qatari men more than the others. The Qatari men are supposed to be gentle, romantic and more caring!
