Canadians in Qatar - Tax filing
Hello Canadians,
If you are NOT a non-resident of Canada (which means you have to pay taxes to Canada), what proof of income do you have to submit to CRA?
Suppose I take housing, but not the housing allowance, do I have to mention this in my tax return and still pay tax on fair market value for house rental.
I will be maintaining significant ties to Canada, and so will be paying taxes.
I appreciate your feedback.
Thanks
Its tricky. My tax consultant suggested to declare everything.
The first year i filed tax to CRA i declared my world income myself. There is a line# in that application form. I think the same thing applies to you ad well. Just declare yourself how much you want to show. Because CRA cannot interrogate employers abroad about their employees' income. My CGA graduate friend also told the same thing. Correct me if i am wrong.
How to report housing benefit. I have a choice of taking housing or housing allowance. If I choose housing, do I have to report fair market value of housing and include it in my income.?
you don't have to submit any proof of income. Claim whatever you wish.
The individual is required to work at a special work site on a temporary basis.
The individual’s principal residence (his/her original home) must be available for his/her use throughout the period and not rented out.
The residence must be too far from the special work site for daily commuting.
The individual is required to be away from his/her ordinary residence, or at the special work site, for at least 36 hours.
Will the special work site provisions be applicable to me. As Canadian home being my principal place of residence, since I cannot commute to work daily, my employer is offering me a residence near the place of work which is Doha. And I will be at work for 10 months in a year (the 36 hour rule).
