Doha court sentence two men to life imprisonment
A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced two Nigerian men to life imprisonment for burglary and attempted murder according to a report by Gulf Times.
The same case also saw a Filipina maid sentenced to 22 years in jail for being an accomplice of the two Nigerians in their criminal activity. All three convicts will have to be deported upon serving their prison terms.
The court also ordered the three convicts to repay a sum of QR29,684, which they stole from their victim, a Lebanese expatriate.
The maid, who used to work for the victim and his family, got acquainted with one of the Nigerians through an internet chat. She gave him a key to the house and the latter made a copy of it.
When the victim was alone in the house, the two men entered the house, attacked the victim by beating him on his head with sticks until he lost consciousness.
The culprits fled after grabbing some of his belongings including an ATM card, which they used later to withdraw money.
The victim was saved by a friend who went to the house after the former failed to answer repeated phone calls. The friend called the police and the victim was shifted to the hospital, the daily added. [Gulf Times]
Horrible people, they can't be civilized anywhere on this planet, and I know this to be very true.
jasonjay25: I know its hard to believe but reality wont change so lets face it. And man we all know the reason why Filipinos are preferred over others. If you don't know mail me i will let you know ;)
Jasonjay25: I know the reasons why most companies not just in Qatar but also in S Arabia "prefer" Filipinos over other nationalities. However, if I state them, the truth will be very bitter and you will not be able to digest them. So just let it be and save your stomach some problems of digestion.
kavin_32: I wonder where you get your figures by saying that crime rate of Filipinos is higher than other nationalities in Doha. Have you checked with MOI or Statistics Office before posting your comment here? But then you mentioned that Qatar still prefer Filipinos. Do you know the reason why most of the companies in Qatar prefer hiring Filipinos than your nationality? Check it out.
There are good and bad in all societies. No need to join the PC brigade. Whether the criminal is a local, British, American, Filipino or any other nationality , they should be named and shamed .
I need a private secretary preferably a Filipina. It took me long to realise that certain jobs were reserved to certain nationals and it was a sheer waste of time and resources to venture - By the way, I have read articles in this site about crime before. A few of them attempted mentioning the nationalities but most often it is often, 2 Asians were sentence to ...., 3 GCC Nationals have been sentenced to ..... and often I will cry within, - NAME IT MAN . Call it for what it is. Little did I know that certain nationalities are given the "Unique Opportunity" of being mentioned explicitly. I wonder if the bias stems from the source from which QL gets its backup articles before publishing them here or it is at the discretion of the editor of this article in QL. Either way we've got an issue - my humble opinion though. Let me balance this up - 2 African males and an Asian Lady have been sentenced to life imprisonment and 20 years respectively for ..... I also know there is no fair society, yeah... relativism is winning nowadays, but.........well, just saying you know
i have seen many filipinos indulging in criminal activities in doha especially cexual activities ..i am not saying all are bad.. but if u look at the stats the crime rate is higher for them than any other nationality.but Qatar is soo nice to them providing them visas, jobs and much much more.seems like they prefer filipinos more than anyone else, which is not good.Think about it
Brit: You are right in your comment that life imprisonment does not mean entire life. They may freed even after 20 years or serving for good behaviour, pardons which usually take place in Ramadan etc.
Icapall: From your comment I am sure you have not lived or worked with Filipinos. I have for several years at different organizations in different cities and know them inside out.
The sentence is not harsh enough, they should cut the hands of the thief's so they will never attempt the same again.
@britexpat, thanks for the enlightenment.......
xfibre: Life does not mean actual life. It usually means a number of years. Perhaps 30
i discovered that they mentioned the Nationality of the culprits and no one complain why they have to do that, because they don't it for country A, B or C.
Am happy about that because it simply shows that crime is a crime it does not matter where you come from; there must be bad eggs among the good ones. So, next time they mention any nationality for crime and they don't mention others, don't feel bad your country is not the worst!
I thinks something is wrong somewhere! it was reported that two out of 3 people were sentenced to life imprisonment, and below they said "All three convicts will have to be deported upon serving their prison terms".
I must say that some filipinos are some of the kindest people.
and still they are providing more n more visa to filipinos..hahaha
What if it was the other way around? If the nigerian was the victim, what do you think the outcome will
Be?
This Crime should be more harsh punishment.
When a willful crime of this nature takes place, no sentence is harsh. It is just by a stroke of luck the victim is alive.
The sentence is harsh but sends a clear message . Well done Qatar
