@Saajan, there's a Law that protect consumer nowadays, you can call 800 500 It's the Toll free number or Tel.4494 5500 and register your complain with an evidence, they'll surely take the necessary steps to assist you..

@saaaajaaaaan, you can complain everywhere. But it's your decision atlast, you pay and stay or look for a place of your choice at your budget and at your convenience. We cannot dictate terms in a land where we have come to survive/make money !!! Infact some are in this forum who are staying for decades :-) even they will not leave whatever the hardships !! Learn from them..
I doubt whether you have much choice. There is no rent capping any more - although I'm not sure whether there is a cap on the amount a landlord can increase

usually they are allowed to increase the rent by 15% only. you may approach "rental dispute" and complain.
