Advice for a job offer (QAR5500 and clause contract) as CSR

Hello Everyone,

I need your advice/comment regarding a job offer I had for a Customer service representative role. I'm a young graduate in business engineering from a European country with 1 year experience. The company wants to offer me QAR4000 + QAR 1500 (accommodation and transportation) which seems very low according to some friends and regarding my previous job. Moreover, a clause states that in case of cancellation/termination/resignation for whatever reason, I'll agree not to work with any other competitor within the first 2 years after termination in Qatar...

The process was very fast, I had an offer one week after the interview.

I know that this salary isn't very good but the Non-Competition clause worries me most.

It is rather difficult to find a work when you don't have a lot of experiences here so I really don't know what to do? Try to negotiate? Don't sign with this clause?

Please Could you give me your advice/opinion/comment?

Thanks in advance

anything above 7500 for an European expat is Ok for your experience...also, the clause which is mentioned there is a normal n general format which they use for everyone...since you will be under your husband sponsorship...this clause is not valid for you.

I understand, but sometimes you are not in a strong position to negotiate especially when you do not have a lot of experience. You know it's frustrating to miss an opportunity to work but well maybe this isn't an opportunity after all. But for sure I think you're right, if they don't agree to remove the clause I'll not accept.

My wish is to see the possibilities for career development and also in terms of wages. But above all to remove this clause. Regarding salary, what do you think? From how much it would be acceptable? QAR6500, 7000, 7500?

I guess people here don't understand that a contract is a mutual (!) agreement. Whatever you don't like in a contract, remove it.

No, your husband is your sponsor. The company has no power over you. I would just remove the clause. And if they don't agree then don't take the job. You'll find something else for sure.

@wild turkey: the contract is under my husband's sponsorship... So is this clause valid even if I am under my husband's sponsorship or not?

Why don't you remain under your husband's sponsorship? You can work as such. If the company doesn't accept it, f.u.c.k. them.

for a European expat...this is an extremely bad offer...not worth accepting it. Also, if you are in doha under your husband sponsorship...then this 2 years clause is not worth at all...

Actually the contract states that I can't work for this business industry/competitor... And I'm looking for a job in that business industry because I have a degree in that business industry (not as a CSR but it can be a good start maybe). As if you were engineer in construction and a clause states that you can't work in the construction industry...

It is not about the business industry. You can do customer service in a hotel, in a bank or in a government institution but not in Vodafone. The clause does not ban you from the business industry but from one or multiple clearly defined competitors. You can ask them to name some of the competitors or all of them before you sign anything, so that you know you will not be seeking a job with those particular companies.

Thx yacine.h I understand what this clause means and it worries me. If the company fire me after a month for any reason, I couldn't work in the same business industry for 2 years and I'm looking for a job in that business industry you know so that's the problem...

If you sign that clause this means they will not give you NOC if you want to move to a competitor. For example, if you are planning to work for Ooredoo then if you leave you will not get the sponsorship transfer to Vodafone, but you can get it for other companies. The salary is peanuts but that is the salary of customer service here. So whether you are European educated or not does not matter. That is the salary for that job.

Actually, I mean of course I need a job. I'm here with my husband (under my husband's sponsorship) doing nothing so in that sense I need a job at least to feel useful and develop myself professionally. I don't know how it works here but I wondered if companies here used to offer low salary while under husband's sponsorship? If I understand, no need to sign with that clause (thx wild turkey).

No company HAS to give NOC. It is completely at their discretion! If they don't want to, then you won't get it. That is the current law.

If u r very very needy then accept the offer if not then refuse it. Better negotiate with them, on termination by company they have to give NOC and in case of resignation they will not give its normal in Qatar.

By Wild Turkey• 27 Apr 2015 16:40

It means that they won't issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC). and that means that you can't work in Qatar for two years. F.u.c.k. that company!!
