Civil Marriage Vs Nikah
By beausejour2014 •
Hi all.
I`ll appreciate anyone`s help and input regarding the following dilemma. I am planning to move to Qatar from the UK for a new job, my partner and my child will be moving with me.
My partner and I haven`t had a civil marriage here in the UK but instead we had the Islamic equivalent called the Nikah. Would this be a problem in Qatar?
I`ve checked few leads on the internet and I was led to believe that this might be a problem.
Thanks in advance for your help and assistance
No Problem at all dear the most authentic and valuable thing is Nikah rather than every other thing else and accepted
Thank you all for your help. I got married in the mosque here in London and for few years the Nikah was the equivalent of a civil marriage and accepted everywhere including the home office. I must`ve read somewhere that Nikah is no longer a representative or recognized by a government officials in the UK and that made me wonder whether it will be accepted by the Qataris or not.
This Nikha Nama conducted in which country? In which language you have Nikha Nama with you?

I am really surprised to hear from you that Nikah would pose a problem for you in getting your family here. Frankly, I don't know how many Muslims have gone through a Civil marriage. Almost all of them go through Nikah and that includes myself. I suggest you get your Nikah translated into Arabic if it is not already in Arabic, get the translation attested by relevant authorities in your country and also by the Qatar embassy in the UK and you should not be facing any problems. Suggest you contact the Qatar embassy in the UK for proper guidance.
