103 consumer protection law violations in August

The state-run consumer rights watchdog detected seven cases of car dealers not providing spare parts and after-sale service during inspection campaigns last month.
A total of 103 violations of the provisions of the consumer protection law (No. 8 of 2008) were caught by the Consumer Protection Department (CPD) at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
A statement by the ministry yesterday said 25 violations pertained to the failure of outlets to display product and service prices. In 21 cases, the outlets failed to describe ingredients in the Arabic language as required by the law, the statement said.
Ten cases of cheating were also detected. Wrong and misleading descriptions were given about products and services by the erring outlets.
In eight cases, retailers took more than the required price for products and services. There were several cases where fruit and vegetable vendors did not comply with price display rules.
Four cases of sale of expired items were caught and three cases of outlets not providing bills for purchases detected.
