How to have a head-start in Qatar

I have landed in Doha a couple of days back and am really very confused about everything. Had been in UAE before this but the rules here are very different from there.

Can someone please guide me on the following ?

- Need to apply for driver's license. How to proceed.

- Need to call my spouse here as soon as possible, wether on a visit visa or residence. What all do I need.

Please advise.

hi Nisha, once a person signed the contract with the company, the company is obliged to pay his salary regardless they have his RP or not... unless, the company is fraud as khalli mentioned. if you don't mind what is the company, so that we can check on that. Don't hesitate to ask French Embassy for any assistance, legal and everything. French Embassy is very attentive to its citizen and active here in Qatar.

r_zh: buddy, i hated dubai when i shifted there and then hated qatar when i shifted here...then...loved dubai by the time i shifted here and now can't bear the thought of ever having to leave from here...i won't guide you with all the boring practical stuff, there's plenty of knowledgeable folk here who will do that for you; all i'll say is, any new country takes time to adjust to; don't let it get you down...work on getting a good group of friends, get your licence and then a car...being mobile in a new city is priceless and driving around will help you get a feel for the city's pulse..it will also give you more reasons to use QL as zafirah said haha) ....don't stay in a corner, meet people, familiarize yourself a bit with the city and once your wife joins you, both of you can together work at making this an exciting new chapter of your lives...trust me, given time, Qatar can be a most wonderful place, especially for families and your challenge is to not compare it to Dubai in any way; two very similar and yet very different places. Keep your chin up, welcome to Qatar and we all wish you a most rewarding professional and personal life here. Whenever you need help, ask for it and you will see there are plenty of caring people in this country who will jump at the chance to help you with whatever it is you need. Not least of all on QL; make this site your friend; it truly is a goldmine of info for new arrivals. Best of luck and have a gggreeeaaattt dayyyy!!!!! :-)

But in case of loose-motion you must report your sponsor , it's for your own benefit. Won't you be asking for sick leave ? ........................................ Fri, 22.08.2014, 10.38 hrs

For every thing you need your Qatar ID card. To obtain a Q-ID card, you must go through your medical, finger print, visa / RP stamping etc., all these your company should take care.

Once you get your ID card, take NOC letter of sponsor for driving licence procedures.

After RP stamping, speak to your sponsor about bringing your family, get his NOC papers, then you can apply for 6 months visit visa. If you meet the deadly criterias set for Family RP, you can go ahead but for every thing you must go through SPONSOR ( except to go for toilet & bathing ) DONT WORRY, BE HAPPY, GOD BLESS U.
