Qatar Airways Pilot
By waterpower •
Hi,
My son living with us in Qatar has always dreamed about becoming a pilot with Qatar airways. They operate a scheme with an organisation called CTC wings.
The problem is that CTC wings require a charge over a property, or a 80,000 UK Pound bond putting down. Being an expat in Qatar with no property in the UK, and not being able to obtain such a loan in Qatar as an expat, his dream does not seem as though it will come true.
Does anyone have any experience of another way around his dillema?
waterpower that is the spirit. Perseverance! Never give up on that dream. It may tarry, but it shall surely come. Keep believing and keep working towards it, doors of financial breakthrough shall open to you.
zackm, obtaining a pilot license from Latin America is even more expensive plus you have to deal with the language barrier. You will either receive lessons in Spanish or Portuguese and then come back to Qatar to deal with the legal battle of converting the whole license. If you want to go South, I would advice you go to South Africa, Australia or Newzealand. Flight training in these countries are relatively cheap when compare to European countries where CTC Wings is based. Overall, travel to United States or Canada for low cost flight training.
khalliwalli, you won't be licensed on 747 straight from school. It is a big jet and requires a lot of experience and additional training.

Thanks for the comments guys, we have done a lot of research, but not got anywhere, all avenues lead to the same place, secured loans or property.
We will persevere.
Thanks for the good advice Khalli and AnointedPilot, how about obtaining license in Latin American Countries? Is it more cost effective to train there too and agin enough flying hours? Would Qatar Airways accept qualifications from those who trained and obtained license from Latin America?
There are other ways of becoming a Pilot. Apart from joining the military and converting his license to civilian license after some years, he can travel to Canada, the United States where he can obtain his license at less than half of what CTC Wings is charging. The disadvantage of obtaining his license in the States or Canada is that he has to work low paying flying jobs inorder to gain enough experience and obtain the minimum flight time to be considered for an entry position with Qatar Airways. Furthermore, there are scholarships, grants and loan from Western country for student pilots. You don't need to have a property to obtain a scholarship for your son to leave his dreams. There are some banks that only requires your credit history back home. I think you need to do more research to find out.
